A good plate of pasta, properly seasoned, it is a poem. It ‘a fine art, fine. No wonder, therefore, that this food has crossed his path with that of poets, writers, and even politicians.

Life is a combination of magic and pasta.

(Federico Fellini)

I wonder that I am a professor little professorial, what is the glory of Dante below that of spaghetti?

(Giuseppe Prezzolini)

Italians have only two things on my mind: the other is spaghetti.

(Catherine Deneuve)

Everything you see I owe to spaghetti.

(Sophia Loren)

There never feel alone while eating spaghetti. Require too much attention.

(Robert Morley)

Men are like spaghetti: most are cooked more are sticky.

PLANT FOOD FOR HEALTH

The plant world contains a natural army of foods that are ready to fight — infections, that is! Getting a steady supply of the following foods helps you build up immunity so that, when that cold comes for you, you may be able to block it entirely — or, at the very least, not let it affect you as much.

In addition to eating these ten foods regularly, you can use them to make home remedies at the first sign of a cold or flu!

Mushrooms

For centuries, people around the world have turned to mushrooms for a healthy immune system. Contemporary researchers now know why. Studies show that mushrooms increase the production and activity of white blood cells, making them more aggressive. This is a good thing when you have an infection.

Shiitake, maitake, chaga, and reishi mushrooms appear to pack the biggest immunity punch. Experts recommend eating a quarter ounce to an ounce a few times a day for maximum immune benefits.

10 mushroom

Garlic

The most pungent of the plant kingdom inhabitants, garlic contains the immune-stimulating compound allicin, which promotes the activity of white blood cells to destroy cold and flu viruses. It also stimulates other immune cells, which fight viral, fungal, and bacterial infections. Garlic kills with near 100 percent effectiveness the human rhinovirus, which causes colds, common flu, and respiratory viruses.

Because allicin is released when you cut, chop, chew, or crush raw cloves, allow freshly chopped garlic to stand for 10 minutes and then cook it, sprinkle it over foods, drop it into soup, or swallow bits of garlic with some water like a pill. You can also drop a clove of garlic into some honey and swallow it immediately for a quick dose that tastes good!

01 garlic

Onions

Onions, like garlic, contain allicin. They also contain quercetin, a nutrient that breaks up mucus in your head and chest while boosting your immune system. Additionally, the pungency of onions increases your blood circulation and makes you sweat, which is helpful during cold weather to help prevent infections. Consuming raw onion within a few hours of the first symptoms of a cold or flu produces a strong immune effect.

02 onions 2

Ginger

Spicy, pungent, and delicious, ginger reduces fevers, soothes sore throats, and encourages coughing to remove mucus from the chest. Anti-inflammatory chemicals like shagaol and gingerol give ginger that spicy kick that stimulates blood circulation and opens your sinuses. Improved circulation means more oxygen is getting to your tissues to help remove toxins and viruses.

Research has indicated that ginger can help prevent and treat the flu. Ginger is also extremely helpful for stomachaches, nausea, and headaches.

If you’re feeling a little sickly, a homemade ginger tea is one of the best things you can drink. Slice some fresh ginger root, place it into a pot with water, and bring to a boil. Then drop in a bit of lemon juice or cayenne, which makes the tea that much more effective at nourishing and purifying your system.

03 ginger

Cayenne

The cayenne family of hot peppers (cayenne, habanero, Scotch bonnet, and bird peppers, to name a few) contains capsicum — a rich source of vitamin C and bioflavonoids, which aid your immune system in fighting colds and flus. It does this by increasing the production of white blood cells, which cleanse your cells and tissues of toxins.

Cayenne pepper is also full of beta carotene and antioxidants that support your immune system and help build healthy mucus membrane tissue that defends against viruses and bacteria. Spicy cayenne peppers raise your body’s temperature to make you sweat, increasing the activity of your immune system.

The fresher the pepper, the more effective it is. However, fresher also means spicier, so choose accordingly.

When you’re sick, add organic cayenne powder to some warm water with lemon juice for an intense immune boost.

04 cayenne

Squash

Squash is a good source of vitamin C and carotene. The six carotenoids (out of the 600 found in nature) found most commonly in human tissue — and supplied by squash and other gourds — decrease the risk of various cancers, protect the eyes and skin from the effects of ultraviolet light, and defend against heart disease.

One of them, alpha-carotene, helps slow down the aging process. Butternut squash is the strongest source of these nutrients, but you can also try acorn, Hubbard, delicata, calabaza, and spaghetti squash.

05 squash

Kale

Like other leafy greens, kale offers up a good dose of vitamin E. This immunity-boosting antioxidant is known for increasing the production of B cells, those white blood cells that kill unwanted bacteria. Whether you eat kale raw in a salad, steam it, or lightly sauté it, you’ll reap all of its wonderful benefits.

06 kale

Citrus Fruits

Adding a bit of citrus to your diet goes a long way toward fending off your next cold or flu. Packed with vitamin C, oranges and grapefruits help increase your body’s resistance to nasty invaders.

The best way to enjoy citrus fruits is to eat them whole. Otherwise, you can make fresh juice yourself (stay away from the premade stuff in cartons or in the freezer section at your supermarket).

07 Citrus-Fruits1

Green Tea

Green tea is a potent source of antioxidants called polyphenols — especially catechins. Some studies have found that catechins can destroy the influenza and common cold viruses.

Sipping a hot cup of green tea when you’re feeling under the weather can really help you come alive again. Try adding some honey or lemon to kick it up a bit.

08 green tea

Miso Soup

Miso soup is the plant-based version of chicken-noodle soup. It has wonderful healing properties that are amazing at boosting immunity. As a living food, miso is loaded with enzymes and healthy bacteria that help fight infection and keep your cells thriving.

All you need is one teaspoon of miso paste stirred into a mug or bowl of warm water, and you’re set. Sip this down, especially at the first sign of a cold or when you’re just feeling “off” with a stomachache, headache, or something like that. This is sure to hit the spot and make you feel good all over.

It was easy to be a little worried about David Koma’s Spring presentation, now that the Georgian designer is the artistic director of Mugler. Since that was a lifelong dream for him, one wondered if he might put his heart and soul into Mugler at the expense of his eponymous line, or whether he’d be able to multitask.

Koma’s challenge was to make sure there was a distinct separation between his Mugler collection and his own, and also to breathe new life into his body-con aesthetic. The designer uses color sparingly—he is very architecturally oriented and often sticks to black and white—so it was a welcome surprise to see shots of citron yellow in the first looks. Color was introduced with restraint: a simple strip on just one side of some shorts, a pop of it on a waistline or collar.

The body-con pieces had cutout waists, sheer panel details, and organza overlay—add to all that the asymmetrical hem, and there were a lot of ideas not seen in previous Koma collections. A supersharp dress in electric blue or pure white had geometric cutouts and bathing-suit-strap details that added interest, but the real standouts were the crystal-embedded looks with minute handwork and meticulous geometry. All in all, Koma made his point: When it comes to his own line, he is definitely not asleep at the wheel.

Olivier Rousteing – BALMAIN READY TO WEAR SPRING SUMMER 2015 PARIS

The powerhouse celebrity family unit of Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Kayne West might have been watching Kendall Jenner walk in the spring/summer 2015 Balmain show, but it was a different pair of iconic siblings that actually inspired designer Olivier Rousteing this season.

The Jacksons, Michael on the soundtrack and Janet on the catwalk, shaped this monochromatic, ode-to-the-nineties collection.

This meant models with slicked back wet hair strutted down the runway in dramatic cut out bandeau tops that were strapped tight to the torso. They also showed up rocking graphic grid patterned high waisted pants and body con dresses that appeared to cadge in each model’s curves.

Rousteing is known for his highly structured and richly embellished rock-and-roll designs. And yes, the strong shouldered jackets did make an appearance on the catwalk. This time they came with tricky twisted bodices that left waistlines exposed.

However this season he smartly showed that he could keep his rebellious edge but still propose (slightly) more forgiving garments. One of the best of these was look 9, which paired a draped black t-shirt with a matching semi-sheer pleated maxi skirt. Also strong were the striped primary colored sleeveless suit vests cut in oversized proportions. A broad collared leather jacket cinched to the waist with a belt also expertly played with dramatic shapes.

The final outfit in the line-up really said it all about this show. The top was an easy white cotton sleeveless shell with an understated flourish of draped fabric. The bottom a pencil skirt festooned with colorful beadwork laid out in a geometric grid motif. A clash of causal and couture that resulted in one seriously bitchin’ ensemble.

After partnering with greats like Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons, Rick Owens, and, more recently, Pharrell Williams, you would think that Adidas has had its fill of out-of-the-box collaborations. Not so. Here, a first look at Originals by Mary Katrantzou, a Technicolor-printed offering in stores November 15.

Track shoes worn by medal winners in the 1970s and 1980s were the starting points for Katrantzou, who reworked Adidas’ iconic looks to wild effect—consider the gold hardware on a hot pink, purple, and green sneaker. But the fun doesn’t stop there: Body-hugging zip-up dresses and pullovers in neoprene and print mesh feature abstract florals, stripes, and laces. Looks like the high-end athleisure trend isn t going anywhere anytime soon.

MISSONI READY TO WEAR SPRING SUMMER 2015 MILAN

Like a breath of fresh air blown in on a warm summer breeze, the last Missoni show  reminded the rain soaked audience that this week was supposes to be all about dressing for the summer months.

It’s understandable to think that more then a few of the front row guests might have forgotten that fact, considering all the dark-hued shows and abundance of leather and suede that has shown up on the Milan catwalks this season.

Not so at Casa Missoni.

This up-beat collection, filled with feather-light knitwear in sweet rainbows of color combinations, was truly lovely in its easy nonchalant approach to fashion. Everything was fluid or voluminous and more often then not semi-sheer.  The collection was designed by Angela Missoni to lightly caress the body. Think the perfect pieces to wear during next summer’s hot and sticky heat waves.

There was also a hidden feel good element to the show. Missoni teamed up with the WFTO certified fair trade company SeeMe to create the lining for some of the Missoni dresses. They were all hand made by women who have been victims of violence in the slums of Ankara.

But as laid back as this collection was, Missoni was still able to maintain a sense of chic sophistication in her silk oversized men’s shirts, colorful short-sleeved trench coats, palazzo pants and maxi dresses. The silk scarves that bundled up the models hair with a twist only added to the show’s sense of refinement. It was too bad the thong sandals did not.

Nice show and beautiful color. Well done Missoni !!!!!

The world’s most expensive incarnation of the Monopoly board game is headed to Wall Street.

An 18-karat gold version of the famous Parker Brothers board game will be on display beginning Friday at the Museum of American Finance. The gold and jewel-encrusted Monopoly is estimated to be worth roughly $2 million.

The set of dice alone is valued at $10,000, with 42 full-cut diamonds for the number dots. All of the properties that make up the game board are also set in gems, with some 165 gemstones in total. The “Chance” and “Community Chest” cards are photo-etched.

The notion of creating a blinged-out version of the board game came about in 1988, when San Francisco jeweler Sidney Mobell heard about a Monopoly tournament taking place in London. He called Parker Brothers (now part of Hasbro Inc.) for permission and then set to work creating the golden game, working every day for a year straight.

An ounce of gold cost between $360 and $460 when Mobell started working on the game set. Now the price of gold has topped $1,300 an ounce.

When Mobell brought the finished board to London, he was closely followed by guards, he says. “I felt like the king of England.” That was the only time the prized set was played on: a showdown between him and Britain’s former Prime Minster Edward Heath, he says.

Mobell, 84, has staked out a career as an unconventional crafter of decadence. He’s made diamond-encrusted yo-yos and mousetraps, as well as solid gold sardine cans, cellphones and eyeballs. Not to mention a gold toilet seat and garbage cans, long before John Thain’s $35,000 commode made headlines. And Monopoly is not his only contribution to the rarefied world of lavish board games: Mobell has also made bejeweled backgammon, dominos and chess sets.

The Monopoly board will be on display at the Museum of American Finance for two years, on loan from the Smithsonian. It is one of 19 works donated by Mobell in January 2003 in honor of his late wife .

Monopoly’s rich history continues to draw avid followers, competitors and discussion, even a century after it was introduced. A tournament for younger players will take place at the museum this Friday as well.

Mobell relishes the notion that such a decadent symbol of capitalism as a game is heading to the heart of the financial crisis. “The timing is fantastic,” he says. But if any financiers are thinking of blowing their bonuses on the Monopoly board, they should be warned: “The set is not for sale.”

NEW FIAT 500x IS COMING

Will debut in just over a week, one of the main novelties in the second half of 2014 for the engine market and, without a doubt, the most awaited news of the year for Fiat. At the Paris Motor Show in 2014, in fact, will be unveiled, a preview of the new Fiat 500X, the compact crossover that will attempt to give a whole new dimension to the sub-brand and 500 in the entire Fiat brand that, in Europe, struggling to establish itself as a brand able to drag the FCA group in terms of sales also due to a reduced range, in fact, to a minimum.

For now, Fiat has declined to reveal specific details about its new Fiat 500X that has appeared, as well as in some spy photos, a few teaser video. The event of the Paris Motor Show 2014 will be the right opportunity, then, to look closely at the car.

By the time the project Fiat 500X know very little. Of course, the car will be built at the plant in Melfi where it will be produced in parallel to the twin Jeep Renegade, one of the most interesting models from the current range of home Jeep.

For the engines of the new Fiat 500X should, instead, wait for the official presentation. The new car Fiat should submit a list of three petrol, a 1.4 or 1.6 100 hp and two 1.4 MultiAir Turbo 140 and 170 hp. The range of diesel units should comprise two proposals, a 1.6, available in two steps of power between 105 and 120 hp and a 2.0, available in 140 and 170 hp.

IWATCH, DO FASHION

Apple Inc has invited top fashion editors and bloggers in unprecedented numbers to its Tuesday launch gala, further evidence that the iPhone maker is preparing to take the wraps off a smartwatch.

Apple is forging closer ties to the fashion world as it plots its foray into the fertile field of wearable technology, trying to win over a critical crowd that may prove crucial to the success of consumer gadgets worn around the body.

A smartwatch would represent Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook’s first real new product since taking the baton from Steve Jobs.
