Go ahead and count them on the slide show above this review. Yes, there were 79 looks in the spring/summer 2015 Valentino show. But designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli probably would have sent out even more outfits down the catwalk if they had been left to their own devices.

This designer duo is proof that in fashion sometime one plus one equals three. What Chiuri and Piccioli are creating at the iconic Italian house, confirms that they are continuously challenging and supporting each other to experiment, take risks and dream big. And the fashion world in general, and women specifically, are reaping the rewards of this prolific collaboration.

This season, the designers gave their audience a sartorial cultural awakening of sorts, leaning on the idea of the 18th century custom of the “Grand Tour.” A voyage that the designers explained in their show notes that was, “an educational trip taken by cultured young Europeans to explore the art, philosophy and traditions of Italy.”

One of the strongest take away styles in the show, was an ocean theme that saw shells, starfish, coral and sea horses appear on diaphanous prints. These came to life via three dimensional beaded embellishments or as breathtaking  shimmering embroideries curving over gowns.
